Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
